Hair loss can be a natural part of the ageing process, and most of the time, it’s nothing to worry about. We can even lose up to 100 hairs on our bodies every day, without even noticing. But you could prolong the life of your locks by regularly taking pumpkin seed oil, it’s been claimed.

Losing your hair could be caused by a number of different conditions, said the NHS.

Stress, weight loss, or even an iron deficiency can lead to some form of hair loss.

But there are some home treatments you can use that might help to prevent some types of hair loss, including alopecia.

One of the easiest ways to stimulate hair growth at home is to simply use pumpkin seed oil.

Pumpkin seed oil is generally taken as a supplement, as opposed to being applied topically to the head.

Taking 400mg of pumpkin seed oil could boost hair growth by up to 40 per cent, scientists have revealed.

The supplements could also help to protect your heart, according to medical website Healthline.

Pumpkin seed oil can be found in local health stores, or online.

“Pumpkin seed oil is said to help promote urinary health and heart health,” it said.

“It’s full of vitamins and anti-inflammatory agencies, along with linoleic and oleic acid.

“Pumpkin seed oil has been linked to positive effects on hair growth, especially in men.

“One study found that men who took 400 milligrams of pumpkin seed oil every day for 24 weeks actually had 40 percent more hair growth than men in the placebo group. No adverse effects were found.”

Meanwhile, you could also lower your risk of hair loss by using rosemary oil.

Rosemary oil helps to boost both hair thickness and growth, it added.

The remedy also helps with cellular regeneration, and is just as effective as some more common hair growth treatments, scientists have claimed.

If you decide to use rosemary oil on your scalp, you won’t need much to have the desired effect. Simply mix a few drops with a carrier oil; for example, olive or coconut oil.

Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.

But on rare occasions, it could be a tell-tale sign of another medical condition.

You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.

There are other treatments for hair loss – including transplants – but they aren’t available on the NHS, and you’ll need to pay for them.
